Statement of Solidarity with Palestine and UCLA Encampment

May 1, 2024

Dear community,

As an organization committed to inclusivity and supporting our disabled peers, Autism Advocacy at UCLA unequivocally stands in solidarity with Palestine, our fellow students and faculty who are protesting tirelessly, and the Palestinian Solidarity Encampment. To seek liberation means to seek justice, and to care about advocacy for disabled people’s rights is to stand with the people of Palestine to foster collective access and community care. We support those who have bravely exercised their freedom of assembly, and we advocate Palestinian liberation and UC divestment.

The blatant attacks by zionist aggressors on the peaceful protestors of the encampment and the lack of objective and accurate media coverage is unacceptable. In a place where our fellow students were peacefully exercising their First Amendment right to free speech, they were unpromptedly attacked, and yet they stood strongly by the principles of the encampment. We keep each other safe.

We call on UCLA to protect our fellow students, divest from systems of death that profit off of indiscriminate bombing, and play its part in ending the genocide in Gaza and the occupation of Palestine. The university has failed yet again to foster a truly inclusive and safe environment for our fellow students, and that MUST end. We thank and stand with the organizations on campus, students, and faculty that have been working tirelessly to advocate for the people of Palestine and dismantle systems of violence and oppression. On the following slide, we’ve included resources of our fellow advocates for Palestinian liberation and ways that you can help; we urge you to support in any way that you can.

It is and has always been from the river to the sea. UCLA must disclose and divest; the Palestinian people and all of us in solidarity will not stop and will not rest. No one is free until we are all free.

FREE PALESTINE. FREE CONGO. FREE SUDAN. LIBERATION IS NOW.

In solidarity,

Autism Advocacy at UCLA
